
Stellar Blade on Switch 2 will get DLSS and FSR 3.1 Frame Generation, but there's a catch
It is not yet known when exactly the game will be available on the Nintendo console.
As Shift Up Technical Director DongKi Lee told Nintendo Everything in an interview, the developers are targeting 60 frames per second in the Switch 2 version of Stellar Blade. Moreover, the game should run fast not only in portable mode, but also in the console's docked mode.
To improve image quality, the studio uses NVIDIA DLSS. However, Switch 2 lacks support for DLSS Frame Generation, so Shift Up had to turn to competing AMD technology.
The Stellar Blade workflow on Switch 2 will look like this: the game first uses DLSS for upscaling, after which the resulting image is processed using Frame Interpolation from AMD FSR 3.1, which generates additional frames.
In theory, this approach allows achieving the stated 60 fps, but this is where a potential problem may lie. Frame Generation does not increase the base refresh rate of the game itself — additional frames are created between actually rendered ones. Therefore, if Stellar Blade runs at a base 30 FPS, the resulting 60 fps may be accompanied by noticeable input lag.
