The Russo Brothers Explained Why They Started Filming "Avengers: Doctor Doom" Without a Finished Script
The impressive cast and the specifics of a large-scale crossover required a special approach.
Previously, there was information that filming for "Avengers: Doctor Doom" began even before the writers finished the film's script. Now, the Russo brothers have confirmed this and explained that they treat the script as a "living organism" that continues to change during production.
According to the directors, this approach is especially important for a large-scale crossover with a huge number of actors, some of whom joined the project just a few days or weeks before filming:
"We rely on improvisation and rehearsals. We like to see what the actors bring to their characters. Sometimes they join us just a few days or weeks before filming, and often that's when the magic happens."
In addition, Marvel has previously deliberately limited actors' access to the full version of the script. For example, Sebastian Stan recently said that he filmed individual scenes in "Doctor Doom" without knowing the entire plot. This approach helps the studio keep film details secret and reduces the likelihood of actors accidentally revealing them during interviews.
"Avengers: Doctor Doom" will indeed be an unprecedented crossover in scale. The film will bring together the Avengers, Wakandans, New Avengers, Fantastic Four, and characters from the Fox X-Men films. The confirmed cast already includes about 30 superheroes, and this list is far from complete: some participants are still kept secret.
The film is scheduled to premiere on December 18, 2026.
