Sony to Adapt Pixel Quest The Drifter About a Time Loop

The project is being created in partnership with Story Kitchen, which already has about two dozen video game adaptations in development.

According to Deadline, Sony Pictures and Story Kitchen have acquired the rights to a feature film adaptation of The Drifter — a pixel quest from Australian studio Powerhoof.

Mick Carter returns to his hometown for a funeral and accidentally witnesses a murder. Soon, unknown soldiers kill him too, but seconds before his death, the hero unexpectedly returns to the past. Trapped in a time loop, Mick tries to escape the killers and the police, understand what's happening, and uncover the conspiracy behind it all.

Dmitry M. Johnson and Michael Lawrence Goldberg from Story Kitchen will serve as producers for the adaptation. Timothy I. Stevenson and Elena Sandoval have been appointed executive producers. The screenwriter, director, and cast have not yet been chosen, and the premiere date is also unknown.

This is far from Story Kitchen's first video game adaptation. The company worked on "Sonic the Hedgehog" and the animated series "Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft," and among its upcoming projects are live-action series based on Tomb Raider with Sophie Turner and Life is Strange.

In total, Story Kitchen has about two dozen projects based on game franchises in development, including Sifu, Split Fiction, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Vampire Survivors, and Persona. Therefore, the adaptation of The Drifter may not happen anytime soon.
