Dune: Awakening will not replace The Last of Us - developer lowers player expectations

However, Dune: Awakening should appeal to people looking for a survival game.

This summer, Funcom studio announced a "single-player" mode for Dune: Awakening. This announcement attracted the attention of some players who were previously put off by the project's multiplayer format. The developers noted that people's expectations for their game are sometimes too high.

During a recent interview at Gamescom, Dune: Awakening Creative Director Joel Bylos spoke about what players should expect from the new mode:

I think if people who play [Dune: Awakening this month] were looking for a really good single-player survival game, then there will be no problems.

However, Bylos explains, if players expect something like The Last of Us from Naughty Dog, then they "are probably barking up the wrong tree. So, if [players'] expectations match the genre and type of game, they will be quite satisfied."

In Dune: Awakening's single-player mode, all NPCs will be available, but there will be no other players. At the same time, in the endgame, the developers will simulate the participation of other players in the faction conflict to "maintain competitive interest."

Dune: Awakening is already available on PC via Steam, with the console version for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and updates expected on September 22.
