Nintendo Accidentally Banned Switch 2 Owners Due to Server Glitch
The company is already working on a fix.
Some Nintendo Switch 2 owners encountered a rather unpleasant surprise over the weekend: their consoles suddenly lost access to Nintendo's online services, even though the users had committed no violations. According to player reports, the cause was an internal server malfunction on the company's side.
Upon launching, affected users received an error code message warning of a permanent ban from connecting to the internet due to a violation of the user agreement. Among the possible reasons, Nintendo cited fraudulent or unauthorized transactions.
On Reddit, Switch 2 owners reported being banned despite having a completely clean purchase and download history. However, challenging such a decision on their own proved difficult.
The situation quickly caught Nintendo's attention. One Reddit user reported contacting support twice, and during the second call, a company employee acknowledged a server-side issue. According to him, Nintendo had already begun rolling out a fix.
After restarting the console, the user's ban disappeared. Other Switch 2 owners also reported regaining access to online services after a reboot.
