Maverick Games called some publisher offers for Clutch "insulting"

News 0

The development of Maverick Games' debut title, Clutch, faced unexpected difficulties during the search for a new publisher. After Amazon Games declined to publish the project, the studio had to find a new partner on its own. Ultimately, Focus Entertainment became the game's publisher, but according to Maverick Games' management, not all offers received were acceptable.

In an interview with The Game Business, Maverick Games COO Harinder Sangha stated that some publishers tried to take advantage of the independent studio's position and offered extremely unfavorable terms. In some cases, this even involved a share of revenue that was worse than the initial agreement with Amazon Games.

According to Sangha, such terms particularly surprised the team, as Maverick Games did not require funding for further development. The studio was primarily looking for a partner who could assist with publishing services, logistics, and release organization.

Creative Director Mike Brown noted that Maverick Games approached potential publishers with an almost complete game and a specific release date. Therefore, the team felt confident enough and even considered self-publishing Clutch.

At the same time, Sangha made it clear that Maverick Games does not intend to permanently close the door on publishers who currently offered the studio unfavorable terms.
