Clutch is not a "Forza Horizon killer" - developers understand their capabilities
The new game is intended to "complement" Playground Games' projects.
Recently, Maverick Games founders Mike Brown and Harinder Sangha spoke with The Game Business and discussed the Clutch project.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Focus Entertainment would publish Clutch – a company known to many players for releases such as Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, Atomic Heart, Roadcraft, and SnowRunner.
According to the developers, it was initially assumed that Amazon, which fully funded the production, would release Clutch. However, the company subsequently withdrew from the collaboration, and the rights to the game transferred to Maverick Games studio.
Mike Brown emphasized that Clutch is not being created as a "Forza Horizon killer":
We are not so foolish as to claim that we are going to kill Forza Horizon. Any developer who sets out to displace a dominant market leader takes a very high risk. If we changed genres and said, “We are going to kill Call of Duty,” no one would give us money for that – because it’s a foolish endeavor. It’s impossible to kill Call of Duty. Behind it are five separate studios with some of the best developers in the world, budgets in the millions, and a huge audience.
However, Mike explains, Call of Duty fans might also buy another game:
So you need to understand what desires of theirs are not being fulfilled in what they are playing now. Clutch was conceived from the very beginning as a game that complements Forza Horizon.
Clutch has gameplay similar to Forza Horizon, but the developers noted that Forza's creators did not focus on characters and story: "This is where the series has historically always been quite weak, although people like such details." In their game, they will pay attention to the story and characters.
You can add Clutch to your Steam wishlist by following this link. The game does not yet have a specific release date, but a release window has been indicated – 2027.
