Dead or Alive 6 Last Round Developers Explain Why They Aren't Making Costumes Even Sexier
The project manager cited ranked matches as an example.
In a new interview with the Japanese publication Famitsu, Dead or Alive 6 Last Round manager Tsuyoshi Iuchi acknowledged that the team is aware of fans' wishes to see more revealing costumes in the game. However, when creating new outfits, they decided to focus not on maximum sex appeal, but on ensuring players genuinely want to use them for an extended period.
According to Iuchi, the approach to costumes in Dead or Alive 6 was somewhat different: the developers tried to release a large number of outfits that suited all characters. In Dead or Alive 6 Last Round, the team decided to change the concept. Now, each new costume should be perceived as a complete alternative look for a specific fighter, rather than just another outfit for the collection.
At the same time, the team fully understands that some of the audience expects more sexual costumes from Dead or Alive. Iuchi explained that overly revealing outfits have an unexpected drawback: in a competitive game, they might be used less often. The reason, he said, is partly due to the player's own feeling of awkwardness.
The developer cited ranked matches as an example. According to his observations, even swimsuit costumes are relatively rare there — players prefer to choose other clothing options during competitive play. Therefore, the team decided not to make sex appeal the main criterion when creating new costumes.
