This is what Fortnite was like before global fame - lost video found after 14 years
A lost recording of a private Fortnite demo from 2012 has been found after 14 years, showing the game long before the battle royale mode existed.
Today, Fortnite is associated with battle royale, large-scale events, and guest characters, but in 2012, Epic Games' project was a cooperative game about gathering resources, building fortifications, and defending against night attacks from monsters.
The recording was made behind closed doors at Comic-Con 2012. The author claims that back then, he found it on the social network "VKontakte" and uploaded it to YouTube, after which he received a warning from Epic Games and deleted the video. A copy remained on his drive. Recently, an archivist studying Fortnite's history contacted him and, with the help of the Internet Archive, discovered that he might have had the recording.
The video shows the foundations of the future "Save the World": world exploration, base building, trap setting, and fighting monsters.
