Blizzard Abandons New Diablo IV Expansions for Diablo V
The plot of Diablo V will unfold 100 years after the events of Diablo IV, but before that, Blizzard will continue to develop the current game with seasons.
Game director Brent Gibson stated:
We are all focused on the seasons [of Diablo IV] and moving towards Diablo V.
According to him, the “story of Hatred” is complete with Mephisto, and now the team is moving on to the “story of Terror.”
However, the story of Diablo IV is not yet finished. Blizzard wants to gradually connect the game's events with Diablo V, based on player feedback from season to season.
This gives us many opportunities to continue moving forward with the fans and see where the story can go.
Gibson promised that Diablo IV would be supported “for a very long time.” He cited Diablo 2: Resurrected as an example.
