Blizzard Explained Early Announcements of Diablo V and New StarCraft
Now Blizzard Entertainment has to prove that it can keep its promises.
During BlizzCon 2026, the developers announced two new games at once. The releases of Diablo V and StarCraft will have to wait several years — they are planned to be released in 2029 and 2030, respectively.
After this, players had many questions for the decision-makers at Blizzard Entertainment. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, company president Johanna Faries explained the early game announcements.
According to her, Blizzard Entertainment wanted to demonstrate confidence in the upcoming projects in this way:
We want to show confidence in some of our biggest projects. We are Blizzard, which will release games, will release major projects and send them to release on time, and all our efforts are aimed at ensuring that these projects succeed.
Also, during the interview, Johanna Faries noted: “I am fully focused on making Blizzard the healthiest company possible.” She strives to preserve “Blizzard's unique special atmosphere — both culturally and creatively.”
The old Blizzard Entertainment had the principle of “when it's done” (release when it's ready). It seems that now the developers are aiming to release Diablo V and StarCraft within the specified deadlines.
