"Spider-Noir" showrunner revealed what the second season of the series with Nicolas Cage could have been like
The creators wanted to change the setting and delve deeper into the traditions of noir cinema.
After the cancellation of “Spider-Noir,” showrunner Oren Uziel revealed what the second season could have been like. The creators considered changing the setting and wanted to explore other directions of noir cinema:
“If it were up to me, we would most likely have chosen a different setting. We could have explored many Los Angeles noirs or European noirs. We had room to move. We start in 1933. Where is it all going? To disaster, World War II. There were many opportunities for new stories here.”
At the same time, Uziel is glad that the first season had a complete ending. The creators deliberately followed the structure of a classic detective story: the story begins with a client appearing in the detective's office and ends with the case being solved.
Prime Video canceled “Spider-Noir” after the first season, without stating an official reason. According to Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television were hoping for higher viewership numbers.
Nicolas Cage also previously commented on the cancellation, stating that one season was enough for him to realize his vision:
“For me, one season is quite enough: I said everything I wanted to say in this dangerous, innovative pop-art “Spider-Man.” Forward, up, in. Whether it happens or not, each of us did what we intended, and the project is self-sufficient.”
However, Sony and Amazon are not abandoning series based on “Spider-Man” characters. According to media reports, the companies are considering four more projects, one or two of which may get the green light.
