All MindsEye Creators Disbanded, Build a Rocket Boy Studio Closes
Build a Rocket Boy studio, founded by former Rockstar North executives Leslie Benzies and Mark Gerhard, and known for the controversially received game MindsEye, appears to be ceasing operations. Several company employees have reported the termination of their work at the studio, and a recruitment department representative stated that they are helping Build a Rocket Boy prepare for its final closure.
Over the past 24 hours, several Build a Rocket Boy employees have posted on LinkedIn that their time at the company is coming to an end. Among them are Level Designer Liam Shannon, QA Analyst Elizabeth Tyaneva, Release Manager Michaela Emsley, and QA Analyst Cameron Deeves.
The most direct statement came from Build a Rocket Boy's Head of Recruitment, Dan Hawkins. He wrote that he and his colleagues would accompany the company "until the very end", helping to complete the HR department's work. Hawkins has already announced that he is looking for a new job both within and outside the gaming industry.
Meanwhile, IWGB Games Workers Union Vice-Chair Ben Newbon expressed support for all employees affected by the layoffs. According to him, the union believes that problems at Build a Rocket Boy have been accumulating for a long time, and will continue to seek justice regarding the company's management's treatment of its employees.
