PlayStation 3 emulator performance increased by up to 25% on NVIDIA graphics cards - by bypassing a driver issue
AMD graphics cards did not have similar issues.
In September, the developers of the popular PlayStation 3 emulator called "RPCS3" announced that they had achieved a significant performance increase on PCs with NVIDIA graphics cards.
Representatives of the RPCS3 team said that this was made possible thanks to a project participant with the nickname Yahfz f. He proposed a solution that provided a significant performance improvement in many PlayStation 3 games.
As an example, the developers cited a scene from Red Dead Redemption:
- On a combination of an Intel Core i9-13900K processor and a GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card — the increase was 20% FPS
- On AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and GeForce RTX 5090 — an increase of up to 25% FPS
Yahfz f eliminated a specific problem related to the NVIDIA driver. The developers clarified that AMD graphics cards did not have this bug.
The RPCS3 developers also conducted tests in another open-world game, Saints Row IV — on a PC with an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor and a GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card, the performance increase was about 20%. The test in Saints Row: The Third showed an increase of approximately 10%.
The creators of RPCS3 continue to gradually improve the project and expand the capabilities of PC gamers to launch projects from the PlayStation library.
