Zach Cregger Admitted the Possibility of Another Resident Evil Film

News 0

Zach Cregger admitted that the new "Resident Evil" might get a sequel. In an interview with Variety, the director confirmed that he is already thinking about the future of his interpretation of Resident Evil:

"There are always ideas. It's impossible not to have them."

In a recent interview with The Playlist, Cregger also admitted that he constantly thinks about possible directions for the story's continuation. However, the director urged to wait for audience reaction and box office results before seriously discussing a sequel:

"I can't stop thinking about other directions this story could go. I have ideas, but the movie isn't even out yet. We'll see what happens."

It's curious that Cregger previously called "Resident Evil" his first and last work with a major franchise. The new statement could mean that the director either softened his stance or meant refusing to work with other major franchises. In that case, Cregger may well continue to develop Resident Evil, of which he is a big fan.

Cregger's next film will be the sci-fi thriller The Flood. The project is in the early stages of preparation, and filming is planned to begin in the summer of 2027. In parallel, a prequel to "Barbarian" dedicated to Aunt Gladys is in development. Cregger will write the script for it, but will not direct.

"Resident Evil" will be released in wide distribution on September 18, 2026. The decision on a sequel will likely depend on the film's box office performance.
