"Alien" Meets "2001: A Space Odyssey": First Details Revealed for New Film by "Resident Evil" Director
Zach Cregger is already working on a new film.
The next film by "Resident Evil" director Zach Cregger will be the sci-fi thriller "The Deluge," set on a remote space station. World of Reel journalist Jordan Ruimy claims to have read the script and describes the film as a mix of "Alien" and "2001: A Space Odyssey".
According to Ruimy, the main character will be a woman, the captain of the space station. Along with her crew, she will set out to find the source of a signal received from a distant planet and discover an alien object capable of distorting time, reality, and human consciousness. The plot will feature time jumps and character doppelgangers, and the story will revisit previously shown events and reveal them from a new perspective.
These details have not been officially confirmed, but Cregger himself previously admitted that "The Deluge" definitely has some similarities to Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey":
"I'm not comparing "The Deluge" to "2001: A Space Odyssey," which I consider a true masterpiece in every way. But there's an undeniable strangeness to this film, and it's also a horror film. For me, "2001: A Space Odyssey" is a fascinating horror film about human nature and, of course, artificial intelligence. It asks serious questions, and in that regard, it has some similarities to "The Deluge".
Cregger also hinted at the film's unusual structure, which partly confirms Ruimy's information:
"The story unfolds in a very particular way that I'm very proud of. It's unsettling, although it's not a horror film — it just contains horror scenes. The project scares me with its scale. I still don't fully understand how to make it, but I think that's a good sign".
"The Deluge" is being produced by New Line Cinema and Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment. Cregger wrote the screenplay himself and will direct, while Spielberg will serve as a producer. The cast and filming start dates have not yet been announced. "The Deluge" is scheduled to premiere on August 11, 2028.
