Crowdfunding campaign for the board game Origins of Light: A Final Fantasy Board Game to launch in October
In the second half of October, users will be able to pre-order the board game Origins of Light: A Final Fantasy Board Game on Kickstarter, where participants can create parties inspired by Final Fantasy I, II, and III, battle dangerous enemies, level up characters, and experience various modes.
Thanks to the TechRaptor portal, which spoke with Kess Entertainment — the gaming division of Kess Co. — users learned that on October 20, 2026, a campaign for the board game Origins of Light: A Final Fantasy Board Game will launch on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.

In this project, gamers will move a party across a game board based on the map of the first three Final Fantasy installments, fighting monsters, defeating bosses, and visiting cities.
In cities, you can spend money on healing, buying weapons and items, as well as magic-related goods. Origins of Light: A Final Fantasy Board Game is designed for 2–4 players, but also includes a rule set for a solo mode.
At the beginning of the adventure, each player chooses a party of four characters. Each of them has not only their own characteristics and abilities, but also limitations on the equipment and magic they can use. As the game progresses and characters level up, players will have the opportunity to change their heroes' professions.

Game setup and gameplay will vary depending on which version of Final Fantasy participants are playing. Final Fantasy I is the most basic version of the game. Six hero professions are available: Warrior, Monk, Thief, Black Mage, White Mage, and Red Mage. In this campaign, Origins of Light is structured in the simplest way.
Final Fantasy II offers a choice of nine characters, representing named heroes from the original game. You can assemble a party of Firion, Guy, Leon, and Richard. The world of Final Fantasy II changes the familiar gameplay formula: the map has empty cells that are filled with random tokens, creating a roguelite-style mode. Whether adventurers encounter ordinary monsters, find treasures, or stumble upon a boss — everything is decided by chance.
Final Fantasy III changes the formula again, becoming a game with a drafting mechanic. The number of available characters expands to 24 variants, based on various professions from the game. Here, access to more complex professions such as Dark Knight, Bard, Geomancer, and others is unlocked.

In addition to the three campaigns, another map will be available on the reverse side of the Final Fantasy II world map. On it, characters from FF I and FF II can play in their own roguelite mode. This means that in 'Quick Play' mode, any preferred characters can be used.
All character images, maps, item and summon artwork, monsters, and bosses are official sprites provided by Square Enix. And although the in-game city does not copy any specific location from the original games, it was created by Square Enix artists specifically for Origins of Light: A Final Fantasy Board Game.
If the crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter is successful, backers will receive the game in May or June 2027.
