The Witcher 4 trailer showed non-canonical events - CDPR often rewrites the script to make player choices more impactful
The 'International Festival of Comics and Games in Łódź' recently took place. CD Projekt RED employees also attended. During a conversation with fans, The Witcher franchise was discussed, including the development of the upcoming The Witcher 4.
The developers once again confirmed that the events shown in the cinematic trailer for The Witcher 4, which players saw in December 2024 (Ciri's battle with a baubau and the death of a village girl), are not canon. At that time, the video showed only one of the possible endings for this quest — 'there will be others, choices and their consequences in the game will often be ambiguous and should affect the player.'
Adam Badowski, one of the heads of CD Projekt RED, said that the script for The Witcher 4 is often rewritten to maximize its impact on players' feelings and emotions. The developers want the decisions made to leave a strong impression on players.
The Witcher 4 does not yet have a specific release date: the game is expected to be released in 2028. In a few days — September 29 — the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered is expected, and next year a story expansion called Songs of the Past (or 'Ballads of the Past' in Russian localization) is planned for the game.
