A PlayStation 5 Game Was Natively Launched on PC for the First Time - No Emulator Needed
Players hope that tech enthusiasts will come up with something to launch Grand Theft Auto VI.
Recently, tech enthusiasts from the OverkillLabs group announced a significant technical achievement. They managed to natively launch a PlayStation 5 console game on PC.
For now, it's not about a Sony console exclusive, but a multiplatform roguelike — in this case, the fact of such a game launch is of interest:
Dead Cells for PS5 runs as a fully native Windows program: relinking, not emulation. To our knowledge, this is the first PlayStation 5 game running as a fully native program for the Windows operating system.
The OverkillLabs project is based on the developments of AnyPS5, whose author aims to natively run PlayStation 5 console games on PC.
The developers tested Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania Edition (PPSA15552) and reported that the game produced about 55-60 FPS in enclosed locations, while in open scenes, the frame rate dropped to 30-35 FPS. The launch was carried out on a PC with an NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti graphics card.
OverkillLabs has published the source code for “DeadCells-PS5-Native” (current version 0.1.0) in open access on GitHub. The package does not include copyrighted materials: “The project does not contain the game itself, firmware, keys, or Sony software. You must independently provide your own legally obtained decrypted copy of the game.”
