CDPR explained why The Witcher 3 didn't get Diablo IV-style content, despite the collaboration with Blizzard's game

CD Projekt RED is open to suggestions, but new content should not become exclusive.

Recently, Blizzard Entertainment and CD Projekt RED revealed details of the Diablo IV collaboration with The Witcher 3. A Geralt-style skin will be added to the ARPG, but there's a catch — it's promised to be given to players who pre-order the story expansion The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past via Battle.net or purchase it there after release.

The developers did not announce any plans to add Diablo IV-style content to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. During a conversation with the media, lead designer Miles Tost explained that CD Projekt RED strives for content uniformity — so that it is the same on all platforms.

When directly asked by a Polygon journalist whether CD Projekt RED considered adding Diablo-style content to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Tost replied:

We haven't seriously considered it yet. It's very important for us not to release content that becomes exclusive depending on where it's purchased [...] For us, this is a fundamental point: if you buy a game, you should get its full version.

Instead of in-game exclusives, Miles Tost explains, CD Projekt RED previously offered physical bonuses. As examples, he cited hoodies (clothing) and a card set. Tost emphasized that CD Projekt RED is «always open to interesting ways of cooperation», meaning the appearance of a conditional Diablo-style skin is not ruled out if it is available to all owners of The Witcher 3.
