Following Insomniac Games' Legacy: Gears of War: E-Day Will Be Full of Collectibles That Are Impossible to Miss Due to Loud Audio Cues
The Guardian accidentally published a review of the shooter prematurely.
The Guardian prematurely published a review of Gears of War: E-Day, thereby breaking the embargo on reviews. The material was soon deleted, but users managed to save fragments of it.
In the review, the game received 3 out of 5 points. The author of the material specifically criticized the design of the game locations: a significant part of the playthrough, according to him, takes place in large open spaces, literally filled with collectibles. Their number is in the hundreds, and a special sound signal is heard next to each item.
The journalist considered the combination of this mechanic with emotional scenes particularly unsuccessful. In one episode, a character finally opens up and talks about their trauma, but immediately after returning to gameplay, the sound signal of a collectible item interrupts the emotional moment, reminding the player of the need to pick something up nearby.
