Games Should Cost More: Warhorse Founder Hopes GTA VI Sets New Price Standard for Industry

Many people are currently awaiting the release of Grand Theft Auto VI. Among them is Martin Klima, one of the founders of Warhorse Studios, which developed Kingdom Come: Deliverance – however, he is awaiting the game for an unobvious reason.

In an interview with PC Gamer, Martin Klima explained that the Grand Theft Auto franchise does not appeal to him at all, adding that he "doesn't understand why everyone else is so crazy about it." He will not play GTA VI of his own volition, and his interest lies in the fact that Rockstar Games' new title could potentially help set a new standard for game prices.

According to Klima, the gaming industry is currently facing a serious problem: the cost of game development has increased, and developers lack new sources of income to finance it – audience growth is almost exhausted, digital marketplaces are already generating maximum sales revenue, and retail sales have been "destroyed."

Ultimately, Martin Klima explains, the only thing developers can do is raise the price per unit (a copy of the game): "That would help a lot, but everyone is scared to death to do it. Let's hope GTA VI paves the way for us, and then we can raise prices."

The base version of GTA VI is sold for $80, and the Ultimate edition is priced at $100. Some players criticized this pricing policy by Rockstar Games / Take-Two, but there were also defenders who expressed the opinion that a game of GTA's caliber could afford such a price.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Nothing has been said about a PC version yet.
