The former Iron Man has set an ambitious goal for himself.

In the official podcast Countdown to Avengers: Doomsday, a video clip was shown in which Robert Downey Jr. explained why he decided to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to the actor, he was attracted by the opportunity to “reimagine the superhero genre”:

“What brought me back was the opportunity to reimagine the superhero genre — not an easy task. You know Mr. Feige, you know our team: we love challenges. And we thought, ‘Let’s try something different and see if we can get excited about it ourselves. Because if we get excited, the audience will follow us.’”

The film is scheduled to premiere on December 18, 2026.
