Sakura to be strengthened, and Jinchuriki rules to be changed - insider reveals details of Hollywood adaptation of "Naruto"

Some fans doubt that the alleged changes are compatible with fidelity to the original source.

Insider Daniel Richtman shared details of the Hollywood adaptation of "Naruto," which director Destin Daniel Cretton, known for "Spider-Man: A New Day," is preparing for Lionsgate. The film will retain the core of Masashi Kishimoto's manga — some scenes from the first story arc will be reproduced almost shot-for-shot, but the characters and certain world rules will be re-worked.

Sakura will undergo the most changes — the heroine will gain powerful abilities even before training with Tsunade, and her backstory will be expanded. Sakura's father will die during the Nine-Tails' attack, her relationship with her mother will be strained, and her infatuation with Sasuke will be less pronounced. Sasuke himself will feel a slight sympathy for her, although his main goal will remain revenge.

As for Naruto himself, he will be interested in the history of the ninja world, though this will not make him a good student. In addition, the creators will rework the Jinchuriki rules: the ability to become a host for a tailed beast will depend on bloodline. Naruto will inherit the necessary compatibility from his mother and will be the only suitable candidate for the Nine-Tails, which should more clearly explain his parents' decision to seal the beast in their son.

The alleged changes have already sparked debate among fans, especially concerning Sakura. Some fans believe that her role could have been strengthened using the heroine's existing qualities, including her knowledge and chakra control. Others fear that the new abilities and altered backstory are primarily intended to bring Sakura to the forefront of the narrative.

Lionsgate is currently casting actors for the roles of Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura. According to the casting agency Carmen Cuba Casting, filming is expected to begin in January 2027 and last until August. The official production timeline and premiere date for the film have not yet been announced.

New details about the adaptation could theoretically emerge as early as October 10, but there is no confirmation of this. So far, it is only known that Viz Media is preparing announcements for the "Naruto" franchise: the company will present a new mini-series and share details about a card game.
