Treasures, Pirates, and Five Years in a Coffin: Crunchyroll Reveals Title and Plot of "The Apothecary Diaries" Movie

The film will be released in Japanese cinemas on December 11, 2026.

The feature-length anime based on "The Apothecary Diaries" has been titled "The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady's Treasure." Along with it, a detailed synopsis was presented, revealing the premise of Maomao and Jinshi's new adventure.

According to the plot, the emperor entrusts Jinshi with fulfilling the last wish of a concubine who died five years ago and transporting her remains to her homeland. However, upon examination, a strange detail emerges: the woman's body is perfectly preserved, as if she had died only recently:

"To unravel the mystery of the remains, Jinshi takes Maomao with him on a journey to Binan, a southern province ruled by the Bi clan. They arrive in a bustling city on the water. Maomao is delighted by the opportunity to discover previously unseen herbs and medicines, but the situation in the province is tense: pirates are desperately searching for a treasure hidden by their late leader. "I hope nothing happens..." Jinshi's premonition comes true. On the day of the concubine's funeral, a major incident occurs, triggering a chain of events that no one could have foreseen."

The story for the film was conceived by Natsu Hyuga, the author of the original light novels. Norihiro Naganuma is the director, and TOHO Animation STUDIO is responsible for the production. "The Late Lady's Treasure" will be released in Japanese cinemas on December 11, 2026, while the date of the global premiere is still unknown.
