Director of the new "Street Fighter" pins hopes on fans' wallets - sequel already in development
The future of Street Fighter on the big screen depends on the audience.
Kitao Sakurai, the director of the new Street Fighter adaptation, told MovieWeb that the team is already working on a sequel. However, whether the sequel gets the green light depends on the audience's reaction to the first film:
“We are thinking about and developing a sequel. I don't want to say anything that would commit us. It also depends on how people react to this film and whether they support our vision for the story. We definitely have a lot of ideas, and we are already writing, but I wouldn't want to promise anything about exactly what we will do.”
The first film will be released worldwide on October 16. The action will take place in 1993. After years of feuding, Ryu and Ken Masters will reunite thanks to Chun-Li, who invites them to the World Warrior tournament. However, behind the competition lies M. Bison's conspiracy, which will force the former friends to confront each other and their own past.
The cast includes Andrew Koji (Ryu), Noah Centineo (Ken Masters), Callina Liang (Chun-Li), Jason Momoa (Blanka), Roman Reigns (Akuma), Cody Rhodes (Guile), David Dastmalchian (M. Bison), Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (Balrog), and others.
