Hideo Kojima watched Zach Cregger's "Resident Evil" and posted a review on social media. The game designer admitted that he wasn't particularly interested in the film initially, but the director's name was a reason to go to the cinema.
"Initially, I wasn't particularly interested in the film, but I watched 'Resident Evil' because Zach Cregger directed it. From the very beginning, there's music in the style of 'The Thing.' Until the very end, the film relentlessly bombards the viewer with classic horror tropes, horror movie situations, and a barrage of jump scares. This is not an adaptation of Resident Evil – it's a film about players who played Resident Evil, controlling a character. It reminded me of my feelings playing the first 'Resident Evil' on PlayStation in 1996: I felt pretty much like Brian in this movie. I kept getting Game Over again and again and endlessly shouted '****', haha."
Meanwhile, the global box office for the new "Resident Evil" reached $320.2 million. The film surpassed "The Final Chapter" with Milla Jovovich ($312.2 million) and became the highest-grossing Resident Evil adaptation. At the same time, the film set a personal record for Cregger, exceeding "Tools," which earned $270 million.
