PS6 risks becoming Sony's most expensive console. The reason is in the components

Insider Kepler_L2 estimated the production costs of the PS6 and concluded that the cost of RAM and SSD alone for Sony is almost $700.

PlayStation 6 could cost more than $1000, as RAM and SSD alone cost Sony more than $680. Sony clearly does not intend to sell the console at a loss.

Insider Kepler_L2, known for tech leaks, estimated the possible production costs of the PS6. In addition to memory and storage, the cost will include the processor, a powerful graphics chip, a cooling system, the case, a power supply, and a controller. As a result, the cost of one console is already approaching $1000.

Previously, manufacturers often sold consoles below cost, compensating for losses with revenue from games and subscriptions. However, Sony has made it clear that it does not intend to adhere to such a strategy in the next generation.

If the company wants to make a profit from every PS6 sold from day one, the retail price will definitely exceed $1000.

The official announcement is still far off, and the cost of components may change. Nevertheless, this scenario explains the industry's gradual shift away from cheap solutions. Against the backdrop of high prices, some players may prefer the PS5 and catch up on missed games with disc editions.
