Beautiful, brutal, but what about the plot? First reviews of "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2" divided critics

The first reviewers have already met the new heroes of Night City.

The first full reviews for the second season of the anime "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners" from CD Projekt RED and Studio TRIGGER have appeared online. The rating for the sequel on aggregators has not yet been formed, but most journalists speak positively about it. Critics once again praise the spectacular animation, brutal action scenes, and the expansion of the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, although the quality of the plot caused much more debate.

"The components are familiar, sometimes too much so. But the magnificent ensemble of characters and the relationships between them make this return to Night City more vibrant, more satisfying, and simply better."
Corey Plant, Polygon
"Edgerunners 2 doesn't feel as significant an event as the first season, but it still offers an impressive spectacle. As a sci-fi story about the evil of megacorporations, a tale of revenge, and an action-packed series with stunning fights and striking brutality, the Trigger and CD Projekt RED series delivers."
Rafael Motamayor, IGN
"Dee and Roman's storyline develops separately from Thalia and Wick's for most of the season, with very few intersections between them. But when their paths finally converge in the concluding episodes, the long wait pays off. It would have been easy to repeat David's story, perhaps with a different outcome. However, Edgerunners 2 deserves praise for refusing to simply replicate its predecessor's winning formula."
Jordan Farley, GamesRadar+
"The plot threads are so loosely connected that for more than half the season, the story aimlessly wanders, resembling several concepts for different anime instead of one cohesive series. Roman, Thalia, and Dee are in the same solar system, but there's no real attraction between them. At least, I don't feel it."
Kenneth Shepard, Kotaku

The second season will tell a standalone story of revenge and redemption in Night City. The plot will center around four new characters: Wick Kingsley, a once-renowned mercenary trying to find new meaning in life; Dee, a netrunner seeking revenge for his destroyed clan; and Roman Carax, a young cinephile looking for material for his film. Their paths will cross with Thalia Young, a girl from a corporate family who joined the Maelstrom gang and replaced most of her body with implants.

The premiere of "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2" will take place on Netflix on October 20.
