The multiplayer in Battlefield 6 is great, but the story campaign in the new shooter is just as bad. It can even be called disgusting - we don't intend to gloss over the rough edges.
The events of Battlefield 6 unfold in 2027-2028, when the private military company Pax Armata, through its actions, caused a split in the NATO military bloc and began to sow chaos across the planet, redrawing borders and destroying NATO military bases. It got to the point where even the residents of the Citadel of Democracy were under threat - that's how powerful Pax Armata is. Who leads the PMC, what its ultimate goal is, and which countries finance its activities are unknown. The valiant members of the Dagger squad will have to fight this threat, touring various regions of the world, performing tasks of particular importance.
It is not necessary to remember the names of the heroes, since only a neural network genius like ChatGPT could come up with such a comical and "politically correct" quintet of characters. There's a woman, a black guy, a couple of white guys, and some Lopez. Although the characters look different, they all have practically the same personalities. There is no clear leader, no joker who will support the squad, no daredevil rushing into battle and disobeying orders. But there is someone named Hemlock, a kind of "Discount Ghost", if you remember such a character from Call of Duty. EA clearly wanted Battlefield to have its own analogue of Simon Riley from Call of Duty, but it didn't work out.
One mission is entirely dedicated to the adventures of some Egyptian in a tank, who is not even a member of the Dagger squad. Apparently, the developers really wanted a level with a tank, but couldn't figure out under what pretext to put the main characters in a combat vehicle.
The characters are simply impossible to take seriously because of their dialogues. Sometimes it seems that the actors are reading the text from different pages of the script: one character says something meaningful and pretentious to another, summarizing his monologue with a question. However, instead of a clear answer, he receives some nonsense, but also pretentious.
The plot tries several times to make the player worry about the fate of the protagonists, but these attempts look frankly pathetic, since no one literally cares about the heroes and their fate. Although we must give credit to the courage of the scriptwriters, who left a thick hint at the end for the continuation of the Dagger squad's story. Everyone should have such confidence in themselves and their work.
However, what you can't deny the campaign is its staging. It gets off to a very brisk start, demonstrating the cunning and power of Pax Armata, which attacked a military base of the beacons of democracy in the mountains. Everything around starts to explode, everyone runs and screams, trying at least to defend themselves, not to mention a counterattack. One of the main characters, Murphy, takes command, jumps into a military SUV with his colleagues, and tries to escape from the enemy encirclement. In ten to fifteen minutes, the Battlefield 6 campaign demonstrates more action than the last three Call of Duty parts combined.
In one mission, the heroes storm Pax Armata soldiers entrenched on the shore, and then help an armored vehicle get deeper into the city, protecting it from enemies armed with rocket launchers, and in another mission, our friendly gang drives through the subway in an SUV, trying to catch up with a train with some electronics needed to guide missiles. There are both tense shootouts and sections where you need to act stealthily, there is even a boss helicopter.
But all the fun is spoiled by the hopelessly stupid artificial intelligence of both enemies and comrades, which does not change with the level of difficulty. Opponents stand under heavy fire, do not know how to flank, disdain to use grenades and are not trained to fire for suppression.
Because of the stupid enemies, the system that allows you to give orders to comrades looks useless. Comrades can be asked to attack, throw a smoke grenade, blow something up or mark enemies. If you didn't know, the Dagger squad consists of an assault trooper, an engineer, a scout and a support fighter. But there is almost no use from their talents, except that the sniper Geko is useful when you need to mark the location of enemies.
Teammates can also save the player in case of a fatal wound, but they will not do this until asked. The player's hero will lie at their feet, bleeding, but they won't even bat an eye until you press the corresponding button. At the same time, they save each other without orders from the player, or they can get up, dust themselves off and continue fighting. Pretenders.
Diagnosis
If after reading you think that something is missing - do not rush to worry. We will definitely touch on the gameplay, the feel of the weapon, the influence of body kits, as well as the difference in classes in the review of the multiplayer part of Battlefield 6. This material was created only to dissuade you from wasting time on this disgrace, which Battlefield Studios called a "campaign".
It was clearly made on the change from multiplayer, on ready-made assets and without imagination. It's not even close to the level of Battlefield: Bad Company, or at least Battlefield 1 - may their world rest in peace. These are 3-4 hours of life that could be spent with much greater benefit. Watching paint dry or toenails grow, for example, would be much more exciting.
The only plus of the story mode is that upon completion it offers to delete itself to free up space on the drive. We warn you: you shouldn't even install it.
