Return to Night City: a new animated project based on Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt RED announced

Netflix has announced a new round of collaboration with the Polish studio CD Projekt RED and confirmed rumors about the development of a new animated project set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.

During the Geeked Week livestream, Netflix Animation officially announced a new collaboration with CD Projekt Red in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, though project details have not yet been disclosed: the company only confirmed a “return to Night City,” asking fans to “stay tuned.”

Such an announcement came as no surprise. Last month during the latest earnings call, CD Projekt RED hinted that it “definitely” plans more animated projects in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, but no details were shared either. CD Projekt RED Joint CEO Michal Nowakowski stated back then: “We definitely plan to do more in terms of animation with Cyberpunk, hopefully that answer is enough.”

The collaboration between CD Projekt Red and Netflix began with the hit anime series “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” which debuted in September 2022 and received an overwhelmingly warm reception from both critics and fans. At the time, the fan community was eager to see the story continue in a second season; however, there is no confirmation that a “return to Night City” means returning to “Edgerunners.” Furthermore, the events concluding the first season leave little room for continuing the story within that framework.
