Deadline, citing internal Amazon MGM Studios documents, reported that the series \"Blade Runner 2099\" will be released on Prime Video in 2026. Filming is already complete, and the project is in post-production.
The new series is positioned as a direct sequel to \"Blade Runner 2049\" and expands the iconic cyberpunk universe. The action will unfold 50 years after the events of the film with Ryan Gosling, but plot details have not yet been revealed.
The project is declared as a mini-series, limited to one season. Silka Luisa, who previously worked on the series \"Halo,\" is the showrunner. Ridley Scott, Michael Green, and others are among the executive producers.
Jonathan van Tulleken (\"Shōgun\") directed the first two episodes, and Tom Speziali (\"Watchmen\") headed the writing team.
Michelle Yeoh, the Oscar winner for the film \"Everything Everywhere All at Once,\" will play the main role. Other cast members include Hunter Schafer, Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Caitlyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, and others.
