Next Superman film "Man of Tomorrow" coming in summer 2027
James Gunn has officially announced the sequel to the new "Superman" starring David Corenswet.
James Gunn posted an image of Superman and Lex Luthor, created by artist Jim Lee, on his X account. The post was accompanied by the message: "Man of Tomorrow. In theaters – July 9, 2027."
The director has already completed the concept of the film, is writing the script, and expects to begin filming soon. Although "Man of Tomorrow" is called the "second film" about Superman in the new chronology, Gunn himself emphasizes that this is not a direct sequel. The film will be the next chapter in the "Superman saga" and will develop already familiar characters.
According to the director, he draws inspiration from comics — in particular, from the story arc "Superman: Birthright" and the animated film "Superman: Man of Tomorrow" (2020), which also features Luthor's armored suit, depicted in the published art.
The first Superman film was released on July 11, 2025, received high praise from critics, and grossed over $611 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing superhero project of the year.
In addition to "Man of Tomorrow," DC Studios' upcoming plans include "Supergirl" (releasing June 26, 2026) and the horror film "Clayface" (September 11, 2026), which has already begun filming in Liverpool. The sequel to "The Batman" with Robert Pattinson is scheduled for October 1, 2027.
