The MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online has been on the market for over 10 years. As it turns out, some gamers were unaware of its existence until recently.
At Gamescom, a PCGamesN journalist managed to speak with the TESO developers. Rich Lambert and Nick Jacomini said that the Oblivion remaster "repeated the effect that the Amazon Fallout series had on Fallout 76" — their game was discovered.
Lambert shared: "That’s my biggest frustration. It always kind of baffled me; ESO has remained unseen. It’s either not taken seriously, or it’s ignored, or something like that. But it’s an amazing game, and it has an amazing community. It’s just once you get a sense of what that community and game is, you tend to stick around for a long time."
He also noted that over the years he has given interviews and spoken, he was constantly asked "Oh, when is [TESO] coming out?" — but at that point it had been out for a long time:
"It just amazes me that we’ve remained unseen, and I think it’s because we don’t shout about [TESO]. We tend to keep our heads down, just work hard, do the right thing – we don’t always celebrate our successes as much as maybe we should. Some of that will change; our communication style will change in the future, and maybe that will help some."
Jacomini added:
"Transparency is our big goal. Moving to the seasonal model has helped us with that, as we’ve been doing events more regularly [...]"
