The Elder Scrolls Online creators puzzled — the game is over 10 years old, but some didn't know about the MMORPG until the Oblivion remaster release
Sometimes even long-running projects can "remain in the shadows" for some gamers.
The MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online has been on the market for over 10 years. As it turned out, some gamers were unaware of its existence until recently.
At Gamescom, a PCGamesN journalist managed to speak with the TESO developers. Rich Lambert and Nick Jacomini said that the Oblivion remaster "repeated the effect that the Amazon Fallout series had on Fallout 76" — people learned about their game.
Lambert shared: "That's my biggest problem. It's always confused me a little bit; ESO has remained unnoticed. It's either not taken seriously, or ignored, or something like that. However, it's an amazing game, and it has a wonderful community. You only need to feel what kind of community and game it is once, and, as a rule, you stay with it for a long time."
He also noted that over the years he has given interviews and spoken, he was constantly asked "Oh, when will [TESO] be released?" — but at that time it had already been released a long time ago:
"It just amazes me that we've gone unnoticed, and I think it's because we don't shout about [TESO]. We usually keep a low profile, just work hard, do everything right — we don't always celebrate our successes as much as we probably should. Some of that will change; our communication style will change in the future, and maybe that will help in some way."
Jacomini added:
"Transparency is our main goal. Switching to a seasonal model has helped us with this, as we have started holding events more regularly [...]".
