The director of "Alien: Romulus" will not be filming a sequel, as he will focus on another project.

Fede Alvarez will not return to direct the sequel to the science fiction horror film "Alien: Romulus." He announced this at the Halloween Horror Nights event, noting that the script for the sequel is already completed, but the production will be entrusted to another director. Alvarez himself will remain in the project as a producer along with Ridley Scott.

"Alien: Romulus" was released in 2024 and received mostly positive reviews. On the Rotten Tomatoes aggregator, the film garnered 80% positive reviews from critics and 85% audience scores. The film grossed approximately $350 million worldwide.

The film takes place between the events of the original "Alien" and James Cameron's "Aliens." The plot centers on a group of young colonists isolated on an abandoned space station. In the finale, the surviving heroes—Rain (Cailee Spaeny) and the android Andy (David Jonsson)—leave the station and head to the planet Yvaga, which left room for a sequel.

Alvarez co-wrote the script for the second part again with Rodo Sayagues, but according to the director, he decided to focus on another project: "Rodo and I have had an original story on the shelf for a long time. Now is the right time to work on it," he noted, without revealing details.

Information about the start date of filming and the name of the new director has not yet been disclosed.
