In the manga adaptation of the novel \"Ikusagami,\" 292 samurai will clash in a deadly battle for a prize of 100 billion yen.
Netflix has unveiled the first teaser for the Japanese series \"Ikusagami: Last Samurai\" (Last Samurai Standing) — a historical drama with thriller elements, in which 292 warriors enter a deadly competition for a colossal cash prize.
The series is a television adaptation of the manga of the same name by Shogo Imamura and Katsumi Tatsu, which, in turn, is based on the novel \"Ikusagami.\"
The plot transports viewers to the Meiji era — the end of the 19th century, a time of rapid reforms when Japan was balancing between tradition and modernization. Against this backdrop, a deadly competition unfolds, involving 292 warriors. The main character, Shujiro Saga (Junichi Okada), enters the tournament for an incredible prize — 100 billion yen. For him, it's not just money, but the last chance to save his wife and child from illness.
The author of the original novel, Shogo Imamura, noted that from the very beginning he perceived the project as a story capable of interesting audiences around the world. He said that he wrote \"Ikusagami\" with the hope of attracting not only Japanese readers, and was delighted when Netflix offered a screen adaptation. According to the writer, the participation of Junichi Okada was a dream come true for him — he imagined this particular actor in the role of Shujiro even while working on the book.
Okada not only played the main role, but also became one of the producers. Michihito Fuji, Kento Yamaguchi, and Toru Yamamoto directed. A total of six episodes are planned for the first season.
The project will premiere on November 13, 2025.
