The Sims movie adaptation promises to be a unique project inspired by the creative freedom offered by the original game, as well as LEGO and Barbie.
The Sims movie is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Electronic Arts, and LuckyChap Entertainment, a production company founded by Margot Robbie.
According to The Direct, the project is in the scripting stage. Kate Herron, who previously worked on the first season of "Loki" and one of the episodes of the second season of "The Last of Us", has been appointed as the director.
The film is being produced by Roy Lee, one of the creators of "The LEGO Movie". He compared the future adaptation to "The LEGO Movie" and "Barbie" projects, noting that it will be "somewhere in the middle", since The Sims, like these brands, relies on the imagination and creativity of users, which gives the authors a wide scope for ideas.
The film is still in its early stages and casting has not yet begun. Despite rumors that Margot Robbie may play the lead role, there has been no official confirmation of this. Officially, her company only plays a producing role.
When the project was announced in 2024, Electronic Arts stated that the film would have many elements for fans of the franchise: references to iconic details such as swimming pools without ladders and ice rabbits, as well as answers to questions about the fate of Bella Goth.
The release date of the film has not yet been announced.
