A developer's perception of certain things can change over time.

Recently, developer Mute Canary reminded players about their project Please. This indie horror game was released in 2017.

After 8 years, the creator announced plans to remove the game from sale. He explained that the horror game Please was created at a time when the developer's parents were divorcing and he was made to understand that he "would have to survive on his own." He then locked himself in his apartment for several months and worked on games based on the Unreal Engine.

The resulting Please turned out to be of poor quality. Mute Canary drew certain conclusions from his unsuccessful experience:

  • Don't release a game without fully blind tests (involving people who aren't your friends)
  • Fix all the bugs that annoy the player. Just because there are ways to get around them doesn't mean they can be left in the release version
  • Don't post your game in a school group, and especially don't be sarcastic/punk when posting about it. The game itself doesn't have that "punk" vibe, so it looks unprofessional.

He also expressed his opinion about the Epic Games engine:

"Don't use Unreal Engine in indie games. You may disagree with me, but based on my extensive, repeated, and in-depth experience, especially at that time, it's cumbersome, bloated, and riddled with bugs. Don't waste your time on it."

The game is not very long:
