At Tokyo Game Show 2025, the developers of Battlefield 6 explained why the new installment will once again feature a single-player campaign, which was absent in recent titles. According to them, this is a conscious decision to bring back depth, tension, and immersion to the story.
The team noted that the goal of bringing back the campaign is to once again showcase "intense, adrenaline-fueled Battlefield gameplay through memorable characters and a well-developed world." One of the key decisions was to merge the single-player maps with multiplayer, so that players can follow the events in chronological order.
The developers clarified that the decision is not directly related to fan requests. The idea arose from a desire to create a Battlefield of "unprecedented scale," where the plot sets the structure, and multiplayer is responsible for large-scale battles.
The campaign has also changed significantly. Cinematography, destructibility, and large-scale battles remain, but now the characters have unique skills, making them valuable allies. Players will control different heroes with different specializations, moving through diverse locations: from the coast and city streets to underground stations.
To develop the script, the authors consulted with military experts. They emphasized that the game does not pretend to be a political commentary, but strives to create a plausible Battlefield atmosphere.
The mechanics in the campaign and multiplayer are the same: weapons, skills, and movement system are identical. The only difference is that the events of the campaign take place before or after the battles online, creating a complete picture.
Battlefield 6 will be released on October 10, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
