The show's creators want viewers to experience the finale in the highest quality and together with other fans.

One of Netflix's most popular series may be heading to the big screen. According to Puck journalist Matthew Belloni, the two-hour finale of "Stranger Things" season five will be released in theaters on December 31 — the same day the episode becomes available on Netflix.

The screening is planned for the AMC network and other major US cinemas. This way, viewers will be able to see the final chapter of the story on the big screen simultaneously with the online premiere.

Earlier, the Duffer brothers, the creators of the series, admitted that they wanted to show the finale in the cinema.

"Viewers have no idea how much time and effort goes into sound and visuals, and at home, all of this is perceived in a reduced quality. But more importantly, it's the opportunity to experience it all together with other fans."

Initially, the idea was not supported by Netflix's creative director Bela Bajaria, who noted that the audience is already actively watching "Stranger Things" on the platform. However, according to Puck, the interview with Bajaria was recorded before the new film distribution agreement was concluded.

Some analysts attribute the revision of plans to the successful run of the film "K-Pop: Lost in Oz", which continued to fill theaters even two months after its release on Netflix.

Whether cinemas in Russia will take a similar step is still unknown.
