Next year, fans of the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay tabletop RPG will be able to get their hands on the fifth edition of the rules, which will be compatible with the fourth edition books and will also receive various improvements and a mega-campaign.
In 2026, Cubicle 7 is not only going to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, but also release the fifth edition of the rules for this tabletop RPG, which takes place in the Warhammer Fantasy Battle universe (aka The Old World).
According to Dominic McDowall, Head of Creative and Design, the fifth edition is an "evolution, not a revolution" of the familiar fourth edition rules. Plus, backward compatibility with current supplements has become "one of the key priorities" for the development team.
The team has tried to improve the gameplay and eliminate areas that caused problems. Cubicle 7 has reduced the number of "special case" rules where the result was not worth the extra effort, reworked the combat system to make it smoother and easier to follow, and made the game a little more deadly.
For example, there are now fewer ways to deflect critical hits, so combat feels more dangerous. Talents now apply to specific areas and perform one function well, avoiding the problem of overlapping bonuses.
The game designers have combined Resilience and Resolve into Fate and Fortune to reduce the need to track these resources. In addition, you should expect the appearance of a mega-campaign covering several adventure supplements.
The team is already working hard on it, and the developers recently completed the playtest of the first part.
