The plan to displace people from the testing department is scheduled for two years ahead.

Square Enix has announced its intention to transfer most of the tasks of quality testing and code debugging to generative artificial intelligence within the next two years. The information appeared in the progress report of the Square Enix Reboots and Awakens mid-term business plan, presented after the publication of the publisher's latest financial results.

As part of the plan, Square Enix launched a partnership with the Matsuo-Iwasawa Laboratory at the University of Tokyo, aimed at «improving the efficiency of game development processes using AI technologies».

The project, called "Joint Development of Game Quality Control Automation Technology Using Generative AI," is being conducted by a joint research team of more than ten people, including scientists from the University of Tokyo and engineers from Square Enix.

The goal is to «automate 70% of quality control and debugging tasks in game development by the end of 2027». Through automation, the company intends to «improve the efficiency of the quality control department's operations and create a competitive advantage in game development».
