Recently, a well-known collector of virtual skins and stickers in Counter-Strike 2 became a victim of scammers.

The assets of the user under the nickname Hawkeye337 are estimated at approximately $250,000 (about 20 million rubles). The attackers managed to seize his account and demanded 1 BTC (bitcoin ~ 7.7 million rubles).

In the end, the threat was carried out: very rare stickers were applied to a standard skin, which essentially destroyed all the collectible value.

However, the story has a happy ending. Hawkeye337 soon reported a response from Valve support — they not only returned his account but also restored his assets:

Everything is back! Every sticker! God... I'm shaking. I have no words. I wholeheartedly thank Valve and the community for reposting and helping to get my account back!

Hawkeye337 рассказал that Steam support made a mistake, which allowed the attackers to gain access to his account bypassing all security systems, including Steam Guard. He published Valve's response:

The support specialist who handled the help request did not follow our process, resulting in your account being restored to someone else. We apologize for this error.
