The next film in the “Star Trek” universe will not be related to any of the existing projects.
It seems Paramount has indeed decided to start “Star Trek” from scratch. According to Deadline, the studio has commissioned Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the duo known for “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” as well as the screenplays for “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and “Game Night,” to develop a new film.
Goldstein and Daley will not only be screenwriters but also producers through their own company, GoldDay. According to sources, they will also take on the director's chairs. Plot details are being kept secret, but insiders claim that the project will be completely independent of existing films and series. This means that viewers can expect not a continuation of the Chris Pine line, but a new vision of the universe with other actors and characters.
This approach aligns with the course recently outlined by Paramount head David Ellison. He noted that “the next “Star Trek” will not be a sequel, but will open a new page.” According to him, the idea is to attract a fresh audience to the franchise and restore its lightness and adventurous spirit, lost in attempts to keep up with Marvel blockbusters.
