In a new interview, Destiny 2 Game Director Tyson Green explained the reason for the problems with the Edge of Fate expansion. According to him, the team tried to deepen the mechanics for hardcore players — new levels of equipment, reworking armor characteristics, set bonuses — but this led to tedious grinding, player disappointment, and a drop in online activity.

«In theory, everything looked just great, but in practice it didn't work. We learned tough lessons about what our players want. They don't want to chase just increasing numbers — they want real rewards».

Assistant Director Robbie Stevens added that the team «went too far» and «changed too much too quickly».

According to Green, the team will fix all the mistakes with Renegades.

The «Star Wars»-inspired expansion with blasters and lightsabers will be available on December 2.
