The ARMSX2 emulator for Android has officially received online multiplayer support — a first for the platform. Updates 1.0.6 and 1.0.7 have already been published on GitHub and allow you to run network matches in several games, including Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. The team even prepared a detailed video instruction on how to configure the connection for it.
The developers note that the implementation of network functions required "a considerable amount of experimentation with the network adapter," but the result exceeded expectations: users can connect to fan servers by specifying the correct DNS addresses for specific projects.
The latest versions also include a number of improvements, including:
- support for custom graphics drivers that can improve performance and image quality;
- updated interface and built-in driver manager;
- core based on the current PCSX2 build;
- system for sending game compatibility reports directly from the application.
ARMSX2 continues to evolve as an open project and is positioned as a more flexible alternative to AetherSX2 and NetherSX2. Despite the fact that it is still inferior to competitors in terms of speed due to the need to adapt x86 code to the Arm architecture, the team is actively optimizing performance.
