The cult visual novel from Kazutaka Kodaka and Spike Chunsoft will return in 2026 as an expanded remake with a new storyline.
At the Danganronpa 15th Anniversary Fes: Ultimate Appreciation Festival, dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the series, Spike Chunsoft studio presented six minutes of gameplay of Danganronpa 2×2 — an updated version of the cult visual novel.
The shown excerpt (from 36:28 to 42:44) refers to the trial version of Danganronpa 2×2, available at the offline event. It is expected that this fragment will subsequently appear on Steam in the form of a demo version.
Spike Chunsoft emphasizes that Danganronpa 2×2 is a full-fledged new story, comparable in volume to the original. In addition, the project will include a remaster of Goodbye Despair with improved visual effects and an updated interface.
The release of Danganronpa 2×2 is scheduled for 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 and PC (Steam).
