During the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted 2025 broadcast, the developers of the game, formerly known as Crosswind, officially announced a complete rebranding: now both the studio and the project are called Windrose (the studio is Windrose Crew).
The renaming is due to a radical change in the concept of the game. Initially, Crosswind was positioned as a free-to-play MMO survival game, but after alpha testing, the team abandoned this model. According to producer Philip Molodkovets, the main reason was the huge number of technical difficulties and the amount of work that would be required for a full-fledged MMO.
The scale and the simultaneous number of players have decreased, but the essence remains the same: Windrose is a pirate action game about becoming the most formidable robber of the seas. You can play alone or in co-op with friends.
The game will appear on PC in early access in the first half of 2026.
