Universal and Blumhouse do not intend to stop at two films in the Five Nights at Freddy's universe.
The premiere of "Five Nights at Freddy's 2" took place on December 5, but Universal and Blumhouse studios have already begun preparing for the next film in the universe. According to insider Daniel Richtman, work on "Five Nights at Freddy's 3" is already underway, and filming may begin in late summer 2026.
The news comes against the backdrop of not the most encouraging results of the second part. The sequel started noticeably weaker than the original — $7 million versus $10.3 million at the start. Critics also gave the film a cold reception: the rating on Rotten Tomatoes is only 12%, while the first part had 33%. Viewers, on the contrary, were much more благосклоннее — the audience left 88% positive reviews on "Five Nights at Freddy's 2" versus 86% for the original film.
The first FNAF became one of the most profitable projects in the company's history for Blumhouse: with a budget of about $20 million, the film grossed more than $290 million. Then director Emma Tammi and producer Jason Blum spoke about the desire to "go beyond the trilogy" and turn the series into a full-fledged horror universe. However, now that the budget has grown to $35 million, and the fees may be lower than expected, these plans may change.
